"What's not required with me - having all the answers, knowing exactly who you are, or finding the 'right' words.

Uncertainty is welcome here. So are tangents, big questions, creativity, curiosity and the occasional bit of silliness.

We might talk, wonder, create, laugh, or sit with something that doesn't make sense just yet.

You don't need to arrive figured out. We can be curious about you together."

A wee bit about Mel
Masters of Counselling | Bachelor of Philosophy

Hello, I’m Mel.

I’m a counsellor, creative, deep thinker, and endlessly curious human who has always been fascinated by what makes us who we are - how we find meaning, navigate change, understand ourselves, and find our place in the world.

Before becoming a counsellor, I studied philosophy, creative writing and acting, and I have a particular interest in existential psychotherapy. These different threads have shaped the way I understand people - not as problems to be solved, but as wonderfully complex humans making sense of themselves, their relationships, and the world around them.

I’m also an ADHDer, and my own lived experience has shaped my appreciation for the many different ways we think, feel, communicate and move through the world. I value neurodivergent ways of being and believe therapy should be flexible enough to meet the person in front of me, rather than expecting them to fit a particular mould.

Outside of therapy, you’ll often find me dancing — from hip hop and jazz to tap — improvising, listening to music, playing the ukulele, or finding some other creative rabbit hole to disappear down. I’ve even co-written and directed a play at the Adelaide Fringe. Creativity, play and expression are a big part of who I am and have taught me that sometimes the things we struggle to put into words can find their way out differently.

My approach is person-centred, neuroaffirming, creative, collaborative and grounded in genuine curiosity about the person sitting with me.

I’m particularly interested in working with people exploring neurodivergence, identity, life transitions and the bigger questions that can emerge when life changes - including those “Who am I now?” moments when the old answers don't quite seem to fit anymore.

I don’t assume that because we might share similar experiences, I know what something means for you. Your experience is uniquely yours. Instead, I want to be curious about it with you.

My hope is to offer a space where you can feel accepted as you are, explore what matters to you, and strengthen your connection to the things that make you uniquely you.
